Tribute to Grandpa Wally

Wally, my giraffe is named after my grandpa Wally. He was the son of a Swedish Missionary and lived the first ten years of his life in South Africa.

When Jan and I went on our walking safari a couple weeks ago, we stopped at the Tululusia Falls, which is at the base of Mt. Meru.

The falls and creek were a beautiful sight and it was there that I decided to pay tribute to my grandpa Wally and his time in Africa.

I scattered some of my grandfather's ashes at the base of the falls - to bring a little bit of him back to the continent where he lived as a small boy.

After scattering the ashes I was able to pick up a handful of rocks from the falls area to bring back to my dad, brothers and cousins.

Jan, David (our tour driver) and I in front of the falls which is 28 meters tall.

  1. Glad to see a new posting. I have missed following your progress over the last few days. I will no doubt go through some withdrawl as the trip comes to a close and the blog slows down again. What is the plan for this blog when you come back?
